Maybole is one of two full sisters offered by Walnut Range Coos on the Highland Spice Private Treaty sale for Fall 2025. We named this beautiful dun heifer after the town of Maybole, located close to the west coast of Scotland. This heifer is a thick, long bodied dun who has a gentle ease of movement about her. She has a sweet and docile disposition, and will come up to you in the pasture for brushing until you have gotten every itch scratched, and your arms are worn out. She was halter trained as a calf and is ready to breed as a coming two year old this fall. Her dam is a deep and long bodied cow of moderate size with good feet and an acceptable udder even into her 14th year. Even though a more balanced udder would be desirable in her advanced age, her calves have been spry unassisted nursers. The two Walnut Range Coos heifers’ maternal grandsire, Starshire Rupert (#40971), brings genetics from a time when Highland cows were production females, required to raise calves every year who were selected for beef production traits. Rupert’s sire – the still relevant Broadstone 17th of Stoneclif (#33535) – was out of a cow with 11 natural-born registered progeny; his sire hailing from Canada’s breed-changing Glen Osprey Farm, which selected their cattle based on performance values. Starshire Rupert’s dam, Starshire’s Forever Amber(#25166), also bore 11 natural offspring. Amber goes back to the historic Stroh Ranch cattle on both sides of her pedigree. True to her breeding, Dundee’s progeny have been the foundation of our herd, maturing and finishing quickly in our Grass Fed and Finished beef program. The influence of these heifer’s maternal grandsire, paired with their breed-changing sire, Highland Spice Hickory, offers form, function and unbeatable genetics.
